The Contract will specify the dates of the booking, location of the practice requiring the service and the hours of work, together with a summary of the Terms and Conditions laid out below. This contract will need to be signed and returned to the Urgent Locum Vet before work commences.

For the current daily rate, please see the Pricing page. Daily rates are in addition to mileage.

Invoicing and Payment

An invoice will be submitted on the final day of work.

Payment is expected within 14 days from the date of the submitted invoice. Late payments will incur interest at 8% plus the current Bank of England base rate according to the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.

Description of Service

The service to be provided constitutes locum duties considered to be of first opinion general veterinary practitioner standard according to RCVS standards. Provision of additional services required beyond the scope of a first opinion general practitioner must be agreed upon beforehand with the Urgent Locum Vet and may incur additional fees.

All necessary equipment and protective clothing are expected to be provided by the employer.

A minimum of half an hour lunch break will be expected.

Additional Fees

Additional fees may apply in the following circumstances:

Car parking – if no free car parking is available, then any fees incurred to park will be added to the invoice.

Accommodation – should overnight stays be required, a fee of £90 per night towards accommodation costs will be levied.

Use of own car for home visits – the locum’s car is not insured for business use. Therefore, a fully insured practice vehicle or suitable alternative means of transport will need to be provided in such circumstances.

In extreme situations when there is absolutely no alternative, the locum may choose to use his/her personal vehicle having made the necessary adjustments to his/her vehicle insurance policy. The charge for this will be £95 plus mileage at 45p per mile.

Any delay in leaving the practice due to excessive workload or additional work after the specified finish time will incur additional fees at £1 per minute.

The contractual agreement may be terminated by either party if the terms are breached by either party. Payment will be expected on a daily rate pro rata basis up to the time of termination.

The Urgent Locum Vet undertakes work in a self-employed capacity and agrees to meet his/her own NICs, income and other taxes arising from payment of fees.

The Urgent Locum Vet maintains the right to substitution of a locum should the agreed locum be unavailable.
